Colorado LGBTQ BLM Response

Our Support of Black Lives Matter and Commitment to Condemning Racism and Racial Violence.

The movement for Black rights and the movements for LGBTQ+ rights are inseparable. We share in the collective experience of heartbreak by the unjust deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Ahmaud Arbery, Elijah McClain, Riah Milton, Merci Mack, and the countless other Black and Black Trans lives lost. Without the Black Trans community, and by extension the Black community as a whole, the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement and our organization would not have made the strides for equality and acceptance that we have in the past 50 years. The Colorado LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce is committed to supporting Black Lives Matter, LGBTQ+ rights, and will stand and fight against racial injustice within our communities.

While we have always been committed to being a diverse and inclusive organization, we know we must revisit the unconscious and conscious bias’s around racial discrimination and inequality within our organization. We have begun to review and initiate changes within the Chamber based upon what is best for our members, our society, and our organization as a whole.

Our initiatives include:

Awareness and Promotion of Diverse, Culturally-Focused Organizations

Conduct ongoing awareness and promotion of our members and partners through enhancing our resource list of POC/LGBTQ+ owned businesses, highlighting the work of purpose-driven organizations addressing equity and anti-racism, and building acknowledgment of diverse experiences across all media platforms.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee

Develop a standing committee on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) made up of our members, chapter planning committee members, and board of directors, to actively review, assess, and sustain the chamber’s work towards equality and diversity for all.

Partnership Development

Expand our partnership and activities with diverse, culturally-focused organizations including but not limited to minority chambers in Colorado, minority-owned businesses, and groups combating racism.

Educational Programming and Training

Implement educational services and training around diversity, anti-racism, and unconscious biases for our members and partners.

Community Engagement

Create a forum for feedback and continuous engagement to build a diverse membership foundation where all voices can be heard.
